Every aspect of our lives is touched by science in this episode of Wavelengths we will meet experts on topics ranging from earthquakes to wild life protection to cosmology. Hosted by Vicki Chandler, Director of the University of Arizona’s BIO5 Institute, WaveLengths will take you from the bottom of the ocean to the outer reaches of the universe. First, Vicki tells us a little about how discoveries in her specialty, corn genetics, are improving lives. A new public astronomy program launched by The University of Arizona invites people to rub elbows with leading scientists and see for themselves magnificent features of the cosmos. It all takes place at a premiere telescopic site on the peak of Mount Lemmon. In the Sea of Cortez in Mexico scientists are conducting fascinating research not just to enrich our knowledge of our planet but to help protect it. A geoscientist visits the San Andreas Fault in California where experts predict it is only a matter of time before the next major earthquake hits. The Hubble Space Telescope has completely changed our view of the universe, now astronauts aboard the shuttle Atlantis will be flying to Hubble to make it better than ever.
