It is a picture of suburban respectability. Every morning Neville St Clair bids farewell to his wife and daughter and leaves his villa in Kent to travel to the City. Every evening he returns by the 5.14 from Cannon Street. But one Monday St Clair fails to make this homeward journey. Holmes is engaged by Mrs St Clair and he discovers St Clair's daily routine is not what it appears.
