For decades, Kurdish factions have fought in these countries in attempts to gain independence in what they consider their ancestral homeland. Today in Iraq, Kurdish fighters are on the front lines in the conflict against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), fighting alongside Iraqi forces against a common enemy. But will this fight bring the Kurds closer to their goal of independence?
