To fulfill his campaign promise to crack down on illegal immigration, President Trump has asked Congress for funds to hire an additional 10, 000 federal immigration agents, and his administration has increased efforts to arrest some of the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States, with 2.5 million of them in California. Last month, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the administration also plans to withhold federal funds from so-called "sanctuary cities" like San Francisco that limit local law enforcement cooperation with federal immigration officials.
