It's 2013 and DCI Denise Woods is now interviewing for the position of Superintendent. Things are on the up until ex-husband Ray Deans drops the bombshell that Denise' estranged and teenage daughter is pregnant. At the same time, the case of a murdered girl called Joanna Andrews flags up the same 'unknown' DNA from 1985 and 1997. It's amoral and professional suicide, but Denise throws caution to the wind and focuses on hunting down the killer of Amy Reid that worked with both Holland and Forester. Only when thee case is solved can she heal the wounds in her own life.
