Season 1, Episode 5 of 51

Rural Voters SOTU – Package/roundtable – This week President Trump delivered his first State of the Union address. Support during his campaign came largely from rural communities and voters. On the night of his speech, we checked in with a group of Trump supporters in Sonoita-Elgin to understand how the president’s first year in office has shaped their views. We also offer viewers a snapshot of what life’s like in the community. The Resistance Revisited – Discussion – Two organizers from the Women’s March Tucson movement join Lorraine in studio to share how their messaging has evolved in the last year, and what sort of activism we can expect to see in the future. They say they’re now focused on broader issues happening around the world, beyond the White House. Political Communications – Discussion – UA Associate Prof. Kate Kenski teaches political communications in the Dept. of Communications and School of Government and Public Policy. She tells us how President Trump’s normal off-the-cuff Tweets affect how his more cordial speeches like Tuesday’s State of the Union address land with audiences. Uranium Mining – Package – Vanessa Barchfield reports that the Trump Administration is reconsidering an Obama-era initiative that banned uranium mining in Northern Arizona, and some of the concerns it raises in Coconino County.
