Migrant Kids

Named in honor of their migrant worker parents, Migrant Kids represent a new face of indie rock. Extended: "With the music we listened to growing up, there was no Hispanic Arcade Fire or Radiohead, so the bands you liked didn't look like you. When we are touring now, we see people in the audience that look like us, and we realize we get to be that group for them," says Miguel Ojeda. Ojeda, along with his cousin John Zakoor, named their band Migrant Kids in honor of their migrant worker parents. Faced with the unique challenge of having a name that occasionally sparks controversy, Ojeda and Zakoor must reckon with a culture clash that most indie bands never have to think about.
