PBS News Weekend

Season 8, Episode 92 of 99

As the U.S. prison population surged in recent decades, so too has the number of children who've been left behind. Today, there are more than 5 million American kids who have seen a parent imprisoned - a situation that can have profound effects on a child. NewsHour Weekend's Megan Thompson traveled to Indiana, which has one of the highest rates of children with a parent behind bars, to profile a family that's struggled with incarceration and the mentoring program that's providing them help and support. This is the second of a special two-part series on children with incarcerated parents.
