ASYLUM SEEKERS – This week, groups of immigrants seeking asylum arrived at the Port of Entry in Nogales, Sonora. Nogales International reporter Kendal Blust spoke to Lorraine Rivera about where these groups originated and Customs and Border Protection’s response. ASYLUM PROCESS – A studio interview with immigration attorney Rachel Wilson, who offers an explanation of how asylum cases are currently processed through the system. FLEEING HONDURAS – Nancy Montoya reports on how violence in Honduras has caused many to seek asylum in the U.S., especially among women and members of the LGBT community. Her story follows a transgender woman as she requests asylum at the Arizona border. DISTRICT RAISE PLAN – Chris Kotterman, director of governmental relations for the Arizona School Board Association, discusses how school boards are tasked with allocating money from the state to offer teacher raises – including why some districts won’t be able to offer educators a 9% raise as the budget bill intended.
