On October 26, 1963, four weeks before President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, he delivered a speech at Amherst College to dedicate the Robert Frost Library. It was a remarkable address to the students that was covered by several of the networks - reinforcing Kennedy's belief in national service and the importance of the arts. It also has a back story of Kennedy's relationship with the poet Robert Frost (who read a poem at Kennedy's inauguration) and Frost acting as an emissary with Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev. Intertwined is the story of students from the Amherst Class of '64 who were influenced by the president's words.
