Season 10, Episode 2 of 99

There are more than three million people in the United States living in 'extreme poverty,' according to a report from the United Nations. These are people who have the same standard of living as the extremely poor in places like Pakistan, Nepal, Senegal, and other underdeveloped countries The UN Special Rapporteur for Extreme Poverty paid a visit to America last year to produce the kind of UN report more commonly associated with failing states. His mission took him to three hardscrabble locations across the continental United States including Lowndes County, Alabama. NewsHour Weekend Special Correspondent Simon Ostrovsky follows in the UN's footsteps and reports from Lowndes County.
