In this case, he explains that we will be using a portrait smooth canvas to make blending colors easier. Then Jerry explains the specific color mixtures for underpainting this subject. Jerry then shows how to mottle all of the colors together using the hake brush and mister bottle to spray the canvas and keep it creamy for blending. After it dries Jerry takes his conte pencil and lightly sketches in the composition, then takes the #10 bristle brush showing how to dry-brush some lighter tones to prepare for the final color tones.
