Acrylic painting, 18x24 Horizontal. A wonderful subject which was the result of a Jerry Yarnell student request. A fascinating scene from the Midwest where cowboys "ride fence," do "cattle drives," and more. A beautiful representation of a cowboy's life in an impressionistic style. Jerry starts with background color showing how to use contrast. Illustrates how to create a mottling effect near base and uses 'feather' blending to combine the two together. Fills in area where chuck wagon will be. This episode and next is mostly placing soft, earthy tones to create atmosphere. Jerry uses white (gesso) to soften and create more opaque-ness. Continuing on background work, Jerry begins placing in sagebrush in small pockets, dried bushes, etc.
