In October 2017, Iraqi forces retook the town of Hawija from the Islamic State, one of the last remaining strongholds the militant group had held during its nearly three-year occupation. But less than a year after Hawija was captured, ISIS has regrouped and continues to terrorize area residents. NewsHour Weekend Special Correspondent Simona Foltyn recently traveled near Hawija to find out how much control the militants continue to assert over the civilian population. This is the second of a two-part series on ISIS's continued presence in Iraq, and was reported in cooperation with the Investigative Fund at the Nation Institute.
