BORDER PATROL RIDEALONG – Lorraine Rivera tours the west desert outside of Ajo, Arizona where Border Patrol agents have seen an increase of families from Central America seeking asylum. BORDER PATROL CHIEF – Border Patrol Chief Rodolfo Karisch explains how the recent influx of asylum seekers has challenged resources within the agency, aswell as how the agency processes people once they’ve been apprehended. ICE DIRECTOR – Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Arizona field office director Henry Lucero discusses the next step in handling cases once individuals leave Border Patrol’s custody. He explains how ICE determines where to send immigrants next. CASA ALITAS – Nancy Montoya profiles Casa Alitas, a charitable organization that helps recently released immigrants with shelter and transportation to their next destination after their release from ICE. COURT BACKLOG – A studio discussion that looks into how immigrants then navigate the court system, and current challenges within the system. Guests include Arizona Daily Star border and immigration reporter Perla Trevizo and UA James E Rogers College of Law professor of practice Shefali Milczarek-Desai.
