AZ WATER CONSERVATION: Vanessa Barchfield interviews Arizona Rep. Russell Bowers about his involvement shaping water policy in the state and some of the concerns he’s heard from stakeholders about the prospect of a shortage. It comes as Arizona negotiates a drought contingency plan with other states that use Colorado River water. DECREASING GROUNDWATER STUDY: UA Distinguished Scholar and hydrology professor Jennifer McIntosh discusses a recent study she was part of that found groundwater supplies nationwide fall short of previous estimations. AMLO INAUGURATED: With the recent inauguration of Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, Javier Osorio discusses how the new administration has indicated it will handle issues like trade and immigration that have a direct impact along the border region. Osorio is an associate profess or at the UA School of Government and Public Policy and an expert on criminal violence in Latin America. AMLO & AZ RELATIONS: Arizona 360 hears from KJZZ Mexico City Bureau Chief Rodrigo Cervantes about Arizona’s early efforts to connect with Mexico’s new president and his administration. OSIRIS-REX MILESTONE: The historic space mission to collect samples from an asteroid and return them to earth marked a milestone when the spacecraft OSIRIS-REx approached its intended target, the asteroid Bennu. The mission’s image processing lead scientist Daniella DellaGiustina (della-JUSS-tina) discusses the importance of this milestone, and crucial next steps in the coming year.
