America's appetite for CBD products is driving many of the state's farmers toward hemp production. A growing number of North Carolina's tobacco farmers are turning to hemp production as a new source of revenue. The increase is in part due to the Trump administration's trade war with China, which has hit the state's tobacco industry especially hard by decimating the export market. Meanwhile, the popularity of CBD products derived from hemp plants has created a burgeoning industry across the country. But will hemp become the future of family farms in North Carolina?
