Sir Topham Hatt needs an engine for a railway poster. Edward is to be the poster engine, but James is sure that it should be him! When James hears that Edward was chosen for being on time, gentle with his trucks and always ready to do dirty jobs, James decides to prove that he can do all those things. James' plan doesn't quite work - he gets so dirty that its takes too long to get clean and James is soon running late for his passengers. He tries to beat Edward to the passengers, but doesn't see the signal. Edward crashes into the back of James and sends him hurtling through the railway poster - right where Edward's face should be. Edward is damaged and can't take passengers but the children still want to ride on the poster engine. James is sorry and offers to help Edward carry the children - and together they prove to be really useful. Thomas has a delivery to make at the Wharf. On the way he marvels at how beautiful the Island of Sodor is. At the Wharf he hears that Skarloey needs to be taken to the menders on the other side of the island. Thomas offers to take him. Skarloey is lowered on to a flat bed and coupled to Thomas. Sir Topham Hatt tells Thomas to head straight for the menders and to be careful of the coupling. Thomas decides to cheer up sad Skarloey by showing him the sights of Sodor. But none of the sights impress the little engine. Thomas decides to chuff to the top of Gordon's Hill, but the coupling snaps and Skarloey hurtles to the bottom and right off the track! Thomas is very sorry. With Skarloey back on the track they set straight off for the menders. This time they go past the seaside - a sight that Skarloey has never seen before! Skarloey is very impressed. This is the best day out ever.
