Season 7, Episode 1 of 40

This week on Arizona Illustrated…The Return of the Drive In: Tucson's last drive-in movie theater, the De Anza, closed on October 3, 2009, after 58 years in business. The screens were taken apart, structures demolished, even the old metal speakers that hooked onto your car window were done away with…but wait! Then 2020 struck and with it came “The Return of the Drive In”! Favorite Places: Mercado San Agustin Courtyard: Our series featuring southern Arizonan architects speaking thoughtfully and personally about a special building, place, or space in southern Arizona returns! This week, Michael Becherer, the president of the southern Arizona chapter of the American Institute of Architects, describes the Mercado San Agustin Courtyard. Power Connectors: The University of Arizona Center for Innovation, The U.S. Department of Energy, Solar Entrepreneurs, and Arizona’s sunshine connect to boost US solar manufacturing. Just Listen: Assume No Harm: The killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and the shooting of Jacob Blake have reignited a crucial and centuries-long conversation around racism in America. Two cultural leaders from southern Arizona’s black community, implore us all to “Just Listen”.
