Arizona Illustrated

Season 7, Episode 13 of 40

Cultivating with Kids: The University of Arizona’s Community & School Gardening Program transforms gardens into STEM learning labs, connecting students and citizen scientists with Tucson’s 4,000-year agricultural legacy. Under the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic, the program has become a leader in how to adapt to distant learning models in healthy ways, focusing on outdoor engagement and even conducting YouTube field trips with charismatic hosts. In the age of distance learning, it’s less about growing food than it is about cultivating community. TANGO: Most international agencies working on development projects around the world are located in major capitals such as Washington D.C. , London, Nairobi. TANGO International is working to promote food resilience in developing nations, including Ethiopia…and is based right here in Tucson. Jewish Mysticism: Tucson is one of the few communities in the country where you can take a class on Jewish Mysticism taught by a Rabbi. We eavesdrop on Rabbi Sandy Seltzer’s weekly class that provides an energetic primer on Jewish Mysticism. Muralists on Murals: At last count there are well over 80 murals illuminating the walls of Tucson…vibrant, thought provoking, and gorgeous. We wondered what some local muralists might say about one of their favorite murals…in this first installment of our new occasional series…”Muralists on Murals - Allison Miller”
