HOMELESS OUTREACH In January 2020 the Tucson Police Department launched its Homeless Outreach Unit. The 3 officer squad partners with social services to try and meet the needs of homeless men and women in Tucson. This week 360 joins the HOT unit as it visits active homeless encampments. TUCSON HOUSING It’s long been said that the cure to homelessness is housing, this week AZ 360 explores challenges related to finding affordable housing in the region. Host Tony Paniagua will get insight from Jason Thorpe, the Community Services Administrator for Planning and Community Development with the City of Tucson Housing and Community Development Department. ANZA PARK People experiencing homelessness often frequent city parks, this week AZ 360 visits Anza Park, one of the oldest in the city and a magnet for criminal activity. A portion of the Tucson mainstay was recently revamped with funds from Proposition 407. FLU VACCINE Public health experts say this year’s flu season’s activity is currently low but caution numbers may increase as we head into the fall. This week Tony Paniagua speaks with Dr. Saman Nematollahi (saw-mahn neh-mah-toe-lah-hee), an assistant professor of medicine in the division of infectious diseases at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson. POLITICAL WRAP-UP Arizona continues to have its place in the national political sphere. AZPM reporter Andrew Oxford analyzes the 2020 election audit results as well as a judge’s ruling on mask mandates in Arizona Schools.
