Seven days on the road and there is still another 190 miles of the Gobi Desert ahead. There are no showers, blistering heat during the day and freezing cold temperatures at night. The cars need some serious repairs and drivers are taking stock of what lies ahead. After being separated during the seven-hour border crossing into Russia, the group rejoins to drive through ancient Cossack villages, towards the Selenga River and Lake Baikal, the world's largest fresh water lake. Recreating another part of the original expedition, Lang wants to load the Itala on to a ship and transport it to the other side of the lake. For the other four cars there is a 155-mile drive south around the lake and over the mountains to Irkutsk where they meet up. They have only just started out in Siberia and it is going to take three weeks to cross - if there are no disasters.
