Ivy Wahome, from Nakuru, Kenya is the first black woman member of the I.A.T.S.E. local union 415 since it was chartered in Tucson. She is currently working on her MFA in Costume Design and Production at the School of Theater, Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Her show, “Gilded Age” sets out the stage to show us a flipped version of a Victorian period from the African cultural perspective. El Charro Café celebrates its 100th year and remains a Tucson icon. Established in 1922 by Monica Flin, El Charro Café of Tucson, Arizona is the nation’s Oldest Mexican Restaurant in continuous operation by the same family. El Charro Café is a telling of Tucson s Culinary History that has captured acclaim from all over the world. Their innovation has maintained old world quality with newfound concepts. SEMA Lab at the University of Arizona’s Center for Consciousness Studies (SEMA stands for “Science Enhanced Mindful Awareness”) is a unique institution attempting to better understand mindfulness meditation. Co-founded by neuroscience researcher Jay Sanguinetti and meditation teacher Shinzen Young, the lab seeks to develop tools that can make mindfulness more accessible to beginners, and ultimately enhance any individual’s quest for personal happiness. The organ pipe cactus is a large, tough and decorative desert plant for home gardens and other locations that even has its own national monument as part of the United States National Park Service.
