Benjamin Franklin and American Diplomacy

Episode 1 of 1

As a preview to Ken Burns' upcoming documentary "Benjamin Franklin," a two-part biography on America's most fascinating founding father, Judy Woodruff will moderate a discussion about Franklin's role as one of America's first diplomats with former U.S. Secretary of State under George W. Bush, Condoleezza Rice; newly appointed Biden Administration U.S. Ambassador to China, Nicholas Burns; and filmmaker Ken Burns. The program will feature clips from Burns's upcoming documentary, which premieres April 4, 2022; an in-depth discussion on the mystique of Franklin, which made him a cult hero in the courts of 18th Century France; Franklin's legacy as one of America's first ambassadors in defining the role of that office; and the role that office plays to this very day in serving the interests of America and its foreign policy.
