Ua Plus

Season 1, Episode 1 of 7

From the BIO5 institute to Biosphere II, the University of Arizona's Life Sciences community is thriving with innovative researchers. A University of Arizona (UA) Neuroscience professor and her team are doing research with fruit flies to find a drug for autism, but fruit flies aren't the only insects that are valuable to the UA scientific community. Entomologist and UA Research Adjunct Justin Schmidt is an expert on biting and stinging insects. He is known for the Schmidt Sting Pain Index, which rates the pain of insect stings on a scale from one to four. Schmidt refers to Tucson as the epicenter of stinging insects in the U.S. Finally, the BIO5 Institute proves that Tucson may also be an epicenter for scientific research. One BIO5 program looks into new ways of collaboration to solve major and minor problems in life sciences.
