Robert's brother Frank appears at the Wainthropps' house bearing a large suitcase and the sad story of Marianne Clark. Marianne is the daughter of his old flame, Violet and she has gone missing from her new job in a Victorian heritage museum. Early investigations indicate that Marianne was last seen running out of the museum in her school mistress costume, following a row with the museum manager.
