Jonathan Bird's Blue World

Yucatan Sinkhole, Shark Biology And Ocean Defenses

Season 3, Episode 7 of 9

Yucatan Sinkhole - A sinkhole is a deep pond created when the roof of a cave collapses and then the opening fills with water. In the Yucatan, Jonathan explores Muyal-Ha sinkhole, which is over 100 feet deep and has a false bottom created by clouds of sulfur. It's an incredibly eerie place! Shark Biology - Sharks are fish, but they are not like other fish. In this science segment, Jonathan uses examples of sharks filmed all over the world to explain the biology and diversity of sharks, as well as why they are important in ocean ecosystems. This segment is not just great science, but great fun! Ocean Defenses - Animals in the ocean have developed unbelievable and clever methods of defending themselves, from simple things like spines and venom, to smoke screens and armor. In this science segment, Jonathan travels the world looking at animals that have the most interesting means of keeping themselves from being eaten.
