Based on the forgotten novel by celebrated writer Frances Hodgson Burnett ("The Secret Garden"), this classic tale tells the story of the well-born, educated but penniless Emily, played by Lydia Wilson. During her daily duties as a lady's companion for Lady Maria, played by Joanna Lumley, she comes into contact with her employer's wealthy widower nephew, Lord James Walderhurst, played by Linus Roache. Accepting his practical if unromantic marriage proposal, lonely Emily seeks solace in the company of Walderhurst's handsome nephew and his beautiful Indian wife. But all is not what it seems as an increasingly contented Emily has no inkling her life is actually in danger.
