Mel Leipzig loves to paint. Although he's well past the time most people retire, he continues to do so constantly. He can't stop. The renowned realist painter from Trenton, New Jersey is profiled in this documentary filmed over three years by producer Eric Schultz. For decades Leipzig painted only his family and close friends. He always paints from life and always includes elaborate details from his subject's environment -- highly detailed elements rendered in absolutely unique perspective. But after the sudden death of his beloved wife Mary Jo a few years ago, he began a series of paintings of religious leaders. He also embarked on a series of portraits of other artists and famous architects, including Michael Graves and Robert Venturi. Leipzig's works are in the collections of the White House in Washington, DC, The Whitney Museum, the Yale Art Gallery in New Haven, Ct., the National Endowment for the Arts Gallery, the New Jersey State Museum and the Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York City.
