When her husband is offered a new job and home, Leah knows she can't leave her mother behind after all they went through to survive the Holocaust. With the arrival of new life, Mrs. Rubin seems reborn, too; with great effort and help from Sister Winifred, she manages to step outside for the first time in 12 years. Alec asks Jenny to go to Brighton for the weekend, but she questions his intentions. Later, he's seriously injured in an accident on the building site that he's been overseeing. When she learns that he has taken a turn for the worse, Jenny leaves immediately for the hospital. Shelagh takes over the local choir and helps bring it back to life.
