Narcolepsy: A Mysterious Sleep Disorder

Season 28, Episode 2 of 6

Narcolepsy is a disorder of the central nervous system that is characterized by excessive sleepiness during the day, along with the inability to control sleep cycles in general. The causes of narcolepsy are varied and complicated, but this mysterious condition can result in a sudden loss of muscle control, sleep paralysis and hallucinations. As we will see in this program, Narcolepsy is present across the entire world, found among all ethnic groups, and affects both males and females equally. We will speak to both patients and experts who will underscore that while there is no known cure for narcolepsy, its symptoms can often be managed successfully.
