The murder investigation is underway and a number of people come under scrutiny. Inspector Craddock learns that Miss Blacklock is likely to inherit a considerable fortune and that Patrick and Julia, her nephew and niece, are her beneficiaries - though Miss Marple suspects their true identities. A dramatic discovery occurs when Miss Blacklock's friend and companion Dora Bunner is found dead in bed, poisoned.
