Thomas is sent to collect some children from the airport for the Sodor Summer Picnic. At the airport, Thomas meets Jeremy, a jet plane. Jeremy tells Thomas how wonderful it is to fly. Thomas thinks Jeremy is being boastful and decides not to talk to him again. Thomas, however, can't shake the feeling that it's better to be a jet plane than a steam engine. When Jeremy spots a storm on the way, he returns to the airport and alerts Thomas. The picnic will be ruined! Jeremy can't land near the picnic, Thomas will have to tell Sir Topham Hatt. Thomas races off. Thomas has an idea and relocates the picnic to Jeremy's hanger. Thomas is very proud to be a steam engine after all! A carnival comes to the island. All the engines get to pull a part of it, except for Percy who's given the job of pulling coal. Disappointed not to be given an important job, Percy leaves his coal and tries to help the others with the carnival. None of Percy's friends need help, but Percy spends so much time asking that none of his coal gets delivered. Soon all the engines are grinding to a halt! Percy is horrified and gets to work delivering coal to all the other engines. The carnival is a big success and Percy is delighted to have done such an important job, delivering coal!
