A stray dog arrives on the doorstep of Green Gables and Anne soon decides to keep the pooch. Marilla opposes the idea: they have enough animals. However, after a series of mishaps, Anne comes to realize the responsibilities involved in looking after a dog. Peg Bowen eventually comes to claim her lost dog. In the end, Anne decides to visit the dog in its forest home until the time comes for her to own her own dog.
